C O N T I N U E S

Good morning peeps.  A wee bit chilly here snuggled amongst the hills of Allegany County, but nothing we can't handle.  And places like Lancaster, NY have taught us to count our blessings big time down here.  Lord a, mercy .

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
There was a 2nd blog post yesterday but it was mainly for my Dear O'
LYNNE
FAECKE
who celebrated a birthday yesterday.
I did not alert anyone other than the birthday gal herself about said post.
What you can see below are two of the three pictures I sent her.
The other one was in a P.M.
And the rest is twixt Lynne and myself.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
And speaking of my Dear O's
goes out to
ROBIN
DEAN
SMITH
for her kind comments on facebook
and especially posted on this blog itself.
I read every single comment.
Robin re-entered my life not too long ago & it seems like we picked up right where we left off
so many, MANY moons ago.   BTW we simply fell out of touch there was never a falling out
or anything [ that I recall anyway].  It is a wonder-filled blessing to have her back in my life.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Also a HUGE
to
LYNN
WINTERHALTER
MANNING
Lynn has been a stanch supporter of MJ & I for many, MANY years,
including, but not limited to, our years at GVCS.
She and I had shared a little PMing yesterday & she truly
WARMED  THE  COCKLES
OF  MY  HEART.
[ Once again you recall how I feel about cold cockles, right ? ]

Not only were Lynn's comments to me spot on,
but I could hardly stop laughing when reading them.
THANK YOU
LYNNY  POOH
BELOW is how HAPPY your PM's made me !

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
And
THAT
is
THAT
for
NOW.

THANKING YOU FOR YOUR TIME THIS TIME TILL NEXT TIME

Morning Peeps.
Today will be a
 kind of day
combined with
FLASHBACK  FRIDAY

Translation:
I  have  no  freaking  idea  where  this  is  headed !

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Let's begin with another story
FROM THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR
Suesical the Musical had a relatively large cast, including younger students, and could be quite the task keeping control of everything.  One night, I believe it was a Thursday evening [ I say this as it was near the end of the week but wasn't a Friday.  BTW  Friday's I always tried to be as "fluffy" as possible with the students.  They had been in school all week & had lots of energy to vent as the weekend began.  Friday's could also be pizza night and/or get into the costume room & dress as ANYTHING you wanted BUT when you were on stage you STILL had to be "in character" & anyone in that scene with you could not "break character" either.  Always fun ... but tough = great teaching tool!]  So anyway, this particular night was not a Friday ,,, however most of the cast was there and things began to get a little wild.  Soon the aud seemed overtly chaotic & try as I might I could not get them to even listen to me let alone calm down.  [ Probably 50 - 60 students in the aud at that moment.]  So I sucked in as much air as I could and let loose with a loud " HEY ! " ,  Well after that word stopped echoing through Allegany County [ trust me I  KNOW  how to project ], I told them we needed about a quarter of that volume & less monkey business.  All was fine and rehearsal continued.
The next morning I get a call from GVCS's head office [ thee superintendent, not the current one, this was three or four super's ago ].  He was very nice but had had a complaint from a parent [of course I later found out who it was, if I wrote her name here I'd be in toruble, but at the time she was complaining about  everything  or so it seemed at GVCS...].  So the conversation with Mr. "Super"
went something very close to this:

M.S.  " Greg I've had a call from a parent this morning.  She claims you were yelling at the students              last evening at rehearsal.  Is there any truth to this ?"

me:     " Well I don't consider what I did to be 'yelling at the students' but then again you might
Mr. Super.  I did raise my voice, and not in a teaching projection manner either."

M.S.   "  So there's truth to her claim Greg ? "

me      " Yes."

M.S.    " Would you clarify that for me please."

me       " Certainly.  [ Here I explained to him exactly what had transpired as I wrote to you my dear
                                   readers .... particuarly that it was one word = " HEY ! " ]

M.S.     " Greg, there must have been some other way for you to get there attention."

me        " Mr. Super,,you began your career if I recall correctly, as a physical ed instructor, correct?"

M.S.     " That's correct."

me        " Ever have 50 - 60 kids running around they gym.? "

M.S.     " Sure, many times."

me        " Ever forget your coach's whistle ? "

M.S.     He starts to chuckle on the other end of the phone.

me        " Well, I forgot me whistle so to speak.  Actually I don't carry one but I guess I could."

M.S.     " No, I get the picture Greg."

me        " You know Mr. Super ,,,, there is a room on the 2nd floor of GVCS that used to be used
for running lights & sound until all that was moved to the back of the aud.  Anytime you
feel so inclined you could get in there and watch any rehearsal you so desire and I doubt I
would ever even know you were up there.  I'm fine with that by the way.  Really fine with
                that."

M.S.     "  I might do that just for fun Greg, but I understand, I really do.  In all honesty the complaint
didn't, well, it's not the first,,,, well ...

me        " Trust me Mr. Super..... now  I  understand what  you're talking about.  Tell [name deleted]
                I said "Hello" !

M.S.      " You really  DO  understand don't you?  Thanks Greg "

me          " No problem.  Call anytime Mr. Super."

This was not in the least bit irritating to me then or now.  He was doing his job [ and doing it well I might add ] and I was doing mine.  Thank  God  I remembered his history before he came to our area [always read up on those "in command" ] as that helped a great deal  I still chuckle over that one.  I was so blessed that I never had a "boss" at GVCS that I couldn't work with...some were a bit easier than others, but they were all great.  Of course I was just an advisor, not a full time teacher [ all of which should have their pay doubled immediately..... and I  MEAN  that ,,, you know I do if you've read this blog for any amount of time. ]  I envy teachers, I really do.  Unfortunate they have so many hopps to jump through now days that take their focus away from their calling = to teach.  [ Id best move on before I getcarried away.... ]  LOVE TO THE TEACHERS OUT THERE, past, present and future.  ; - )

Yesterday after prayer before the Thanksgiving dinner at Connie's, we went around the table and each of us  continued the prayer  by telling  God  what we were particularly thankful for this Thanksgiving
It was quite the telling moment in more ways than one.  Emotional too in a couple of cases.  Did you do something similar ?

Good Morning
and
HAPPY THANKSGIVING
to
One and All

The Biblical verse above gives me cause to pause.  God & I have discussed it and God being God, just isn't giving in on it.  [ No disrespect meant = HE cool ! ]  Today is not the day for overt heaviness in our blog post but God and I are STILL discussing this edict ... on a regular basis.  Perhaps what intrigues me about this is that I seem to have little problem with the verse below:

[ A favorite verse of the late Lois Dean.  What a wonderful Christian lady.]

So how can I be ready to REJOICE ALWAYS but come to a questionable halt at GIVING THANKS FOR EVERYTHING ?   In my [simple] mind it's easy:  One can carry the JOY of the Lord in the essence of their very being [ Dottie Graham comes to mind ] but still not be overtly FULL of THANKS for all things.  And yet ,,,,,,, God being God, insists on it.  So do I do it ?  Yes I do [try to] give thanks for EVERYTHING even when I don't grasp the "reason" behind it.  Perhaps that is another definition of faith ?
He never said it'd be
easy
He said it'd be
worth it all.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
So what are your plans for today ?   Spending time with family and friends ?  Eating some turkey with all the fixin's ?  Watching the parades / football on TV ?  Whatever your plans [ or perhaps the lack thereof ]  please know that I am particularly thankful today for each and every one of you. When I locate the little booklet of songs from whence comes the following I will give credit where credit is due.... but I dedicate this to each and every one of you:

" I give thanks to the Lord for you always,
the great gift he has given to me
As we walk life's weary road
you make less my heavy load
And we share each other's burdens on the way."

I did nothing to deserve such a supportive people in my life, but I sure am thankful for each and every one of you.  Please KNOW that fact.  Also, if you'd be so kind [ I know you are ] let us keep in mind today those who won't be surrounded by family or friends.  Particularly those who may simply be wishing for the holidays to pass & January to arrive, because to them the holidays just magnify the hurt they carry inside.  If those of us who are so abundantly blessed [ Amen! ] could just take a moment today to say a prayer for those on the other side of the happiness spectrum ,,, Heaven knows what might happen.   ;-)   Thank you ever so kindly peeps.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
And lest we forget
To our Sister-In-Law
LORIE WAITE-FELDBAUER

What a way to celebrate Thanksgiving.
LOVE YOU LORIE [ Cameron Diaz ] FELDBAUER

And with that I bid y'all farewell for now.

Bare with me just a bit, this  DOES  "pick up"
I  PROMISE.

When I first wrote yesterday's post I felt like
A
and due to that
there were
many
Then I realized how many times I had told others
" God made tears as well as smiles, it's okay to cry, really it's okay. "
And  then
GOD
made an appearance
in the form of
MICHAEL FELDBAUER
CONNIE  LEWIS

MICHELLE LIBERTONE
JESSICA LEWIS HAND

CAROL RICKETTS SCHELIN

as  well as some of "my" former drama students

SYDNEY  KEESLER

ALAN PETER SALYER

and

TAD JOHNSON

and
GOD
being
GOD
turned the tears of
sadness
into tears of
GLADNESS !

I began to recall some of the unique moments that will remain with me always due to the tremendous experience of having been GVCS  Drama Advisor:
*****************************************************************
 Sweet Emily Musingo
in the starring role of
ANNIE
my first production for GVCS.
Emily was / is such a trooper
[ in the best sense of the word ].
***************************************************************
 Jon  Oswalt
shocking me with a completely bald head
just before the first performance of
ANNIE
as he was portraying
Daddy  Warbucks.
He was NOT required to shave his head.
We had a "bald head piece" for him to wear.
A senior in high school shaving his head for a part in a play.
WoW.
I mean WOW !
******************************************************************
 Kayleigh Inzinna
stepping up to the role of
Miss Hannigan
in
ANNIE
when the original gals cast for it had to back out.
AND
the young gal who thought she
deserved
that role writing me a very nasty note telling me
where to go and exactly how to get there.
{ I still have the note by the way ]
******************************************************************
The everlasting kindness & class of
Elizabeth Lyons
[ Now Mrs. Gregory Shwerzler with two sons ! ]
Always willing to learn,
always respectful,
always appreciative of everything & everyone.
*******************************************************************
Physically demonstrating to some young [grade school age] students
exactly how I wanted them to run onto the stage
[ as WHO'S in Suesical the Musical ]
and then fall onto the stage.
So I did the move as I wanted them to do it & one little girl said:
" Mr. Shelley, be careful!   People your age can break a hip  real  easy."
( Awwww, bless her little heart.)

**************************************************************
Bradley Palmer's ability to sneak up on me
ANYwhere at ANYtime
and scare the   @%^%^&*&Y*)   outta me.
He  STILL can.
**************************************************************
Tad Johnson's "little gag gift" to me at the Cast Party
after, what was it, Annie ?
I have yet to pay him back for that.
But I will.  I truly will.
************************************************************
David Brown
Wonderful David Brown
The only student intent upon listening to the Director's notes
at rehearsal's end.
Did I mention what a WONDERFUL drama student David Brown was ?
**************************************************************
Paige Demick
Simply & Completely
Paige  Demick
; - )
***************************************************************
Kayleigh Wigent
There was a reason she normally had the mothering roles.
Such a caretaker !
***************************************************************
Autumn McCumiskey saying to me at rehearsal
as I was complimenting Chaz James.....
" Oh yes, let's blow some more sunshine up Chaz's _________ "
I couldn't believe she actually SAID it,
then I couldn't stop laughing.
Autumn you remain an "act" unto yourself.
[ Autumn is actually studying acting in Boston.  Love that gal ! ]
******************************************************************
Carmella Losi  &  Autumn McCumiskey
as the two aunts
in
ARSENIC & OLD LACE
*******************************************************************
Chaz  James  and  Dathan Garfield
in
ARESENIC  &  OLD  LACE
What  a  duo  they  were !
********************************************************************
James  Hardy
in
EVERYTHING.
James
[ who has a hearing challenge ]
was sitting with some gals one evening
[ not unusual btw ]
in the audience seats
as I worked with some actors who were on the stage.
I told James to be quiet
and he chose that moment to tell me something he  thought  I'd not heard.
I turned to him & questioned him about what he'd said.
He finally admitted it:

" I said 'bite me' Mr. Shelley."

This was unique in so many ways.
 1. I felt sorry for James due to his hearing challenge.
2. We were / are good friends with the entire Hardy family.
3. I couldn't just let this go, by now the entire cast was watching / listening.
4.  It  was  funny  but  it also saddend me that James would do that.
5. I had to ignore  # 4  as James was with the gals.  James REALLY likes the gals.

So I sent James to the back of the aud, told him to call a parent as he was done for the night.  I would consider what, if anything, would be done about this at a later time.
[ NOTE:  James has since embellished this with male bravado, but this is what happened.]

TO HIS CREDIT
James came up to me at rehearsal the following night
and  apologized in front of the cast for his actions & what he's said to me.
NOTICE how he did this:
The original upset occurred publicly so he apologized in like manner.
That's called class.
He did not come to me privately, he did it publicly, as was the infraction.
Thank you James Gregory Hardy.
Still one of my fav's !
*****************************************************************************
Ksa Curry & Imris Curry
I do  NOT  know how to even describe the wonder that is the Curry sisters.
A pure joy to work with.
Never have to worry with a Curry.
; - )
*******************************************************************************
Justin  Livergood
came along later in his H.S. career & was always a joy to work with.
Even when we visted an office upstairs together
Justin was worth every second of that... and more.
Justin is attending Houghton College currently
studying to become a minister.
Who knew ?
; - )
******************************************************************************
Luke Duttweiler & Carolyn Duttweiler
Brother and sister
alike and yet not alike.
These were two individuals that I never had to worry about when it came to learning
their lines, paying attention
[ well maybe a wee bit if Luke got to the piano or Carolyn was chatting ].
Pure heaven to work with them.
*****************************************************************************
AND
How about the parents who allowed their child to SKIP a performance
because she wanted to attend [ attend mind you, not play in ]
a sports event ?   So we were just absent her role.
Yes, I remember who it was.  To this very day I remember who it was.
******************************************************************************
Aidan Alexander DeTine
who has worked with me since PRE - GVCS days.
First worked with my "Double A" on the old BCS stage in 2002
when Aidan was six years old.
As life would have it, I worked with him for what would turn out to be my last show
at GVCS
" The Odd Couple "
starring
Aidan DeTine  and  Alan Salyer
[ Double A. & his family are very close personal friends ]
**************************************************************************
Alan Salyer
as
The Bullfrog
in
HONK!
as well as everything else he was in,
what a performer.
Alan Peter Salyer
is now in Slovakia as an exchange student for Rotary.
He sent me the most wonderful Facebook PM's yesterday.
Brought GOOD tears to my eyes.
Thank you A.P.S.
******************************************************************************
Caleb McGuire - Casey McDowell - McKayla Temple - Katrina Temple
Audrey Warner - Curtis Warner - Kareligh Presutti - Alex Presutti
Emma Dowd - Greg Lewis - Ruby Lananger - Shannon Mountain - Shyenne Hocker
Rob Ford - Mackenzie Ward - Elena Garza - Jessica Masho -

and the list goes
on
and
On
and
ON

I will be posting more names and stories as the days / weeks go on
but you get my drift, right ?

I  AM

IN  FACT

" I'm so glad we had this time together
just to have a laugh and sing a song,
Seems we just got started and before you know it,
Comes the time we have to say.. so long."
